Forums and Website

Hey Lumatics!
So some news on the Forums, which has been back up and running for the past day. It was just a simple issue with the MySQL host, which was rectified rather quickly. So for all you Forum junkies, don't worry, it wasn't another attack or anything which is always a good thing. I suggest you take a look at the forums if you can, a lot of decisions are made there based on people's opinions and you can get more news from there too! Just hope on over to http://www.lumina-ro.net/forums/ and have yourself a little look.

In other news, the website has undergone some massive changes and will soon have a fully functioning database. Of course, currently the website has some information about Quests and what items are required, but soon it'll be able to tell you where to get all those items and what drops them. It'll also tell you what items are used for which quests and give you direct links to NPCs. It's all in all a rather funky tool to have. Another suggestion Adhelle has taken into account will be the ability to search for Shops on the website, which will make your shopping needs all that much easier.

That's it for just now,

Maintenance 04/09/10

Hello Lumatics!
We've had a major maintenance today that was scheduled for 10am Server Time on the 4th of September, 2010. The server itself did crash 10 minutes before hand which was a shame as we had no way to warn you that it was about to happen. Instead of putting it back up again, Adhelle just left the server down and commenced the maintenance.

The major installment of this is the Harmony Anti-GRF edit shield which will prevent us from those nasty GRF editors. Upon opening your Patcher for the first time you'll see the little image above appear for a few moments whilst it loads. There have been some reported erroring, which is down to character switching. To avoid the errors and disconnections from the errors, please do not switch your character by pressing Escape. Please close your LuminaRO entirely and re-open to change your character. This should prevent any errors/constant disconnections.

Another update is the Auction House which should be fixed. Adhelle has sorted the forums into new sections, especially the Suggestions forum which she has totally overhauled. Due to this, she can work more effeciently towards your suggestions and today a previewer was added to the Fusor, so now you can see the items on your character before you buy them!!

That's about it for today Lumatics. As always, keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

Interview with Gadget

"OMG YOU'RE A GIRL?"

So today I spent time with the wonderful Gadget, winner of Lumina Idol, Co-Owner of Fusion Dance and general chitty chatter in-game. I decided I'd interview her for the blog and this will be the first of many other interviews with different players in-game. The interview took approximately over an hour due to the constant and general chit-chattery.

Arie:
So, first of all, congratulations on winning Lumina Idol, how does it feel to know you're the best singer on LuminaRO?
Gadget:
I like cake.
Arie:
Nice answer, but in all seriousness, how does it feel to have been voted the winner?
Gadget:
Well, I've always known I was a decent singer, so I kind of expected to place. But to be voted #1 was really nice. Does that...does that sound like I'm full of myself? I just know where my talents lie, that's all. :| Don't ever put me in a dance competition.
Arie:
What did you do with your winnings?
Gadget:
I haven't done anything with them yet, but I plan on donating some to Lumina Idol 2, if we have it. Also, I think I want to open the OCAs in front of Wyrd so she can see what kind of awesome (or crappy) cards I got from her event. And this was my first time seeing the description fo speed potions...speed up for 5 seconds? REALLY? What can you do in 5 seconds...although I guess it's helpful if you need to rush to the bathroom. >o>
Arie:
Do you prefer player-held events such as this or GM-led events and why?
Gadget:
Player-held events are not as advertised, so there is less competition, but GM-held events provide headgears that you can only obtain from those events. GMs also have the advantage of spawning monsters and such, so I don't think it's fair to compare, since GMs have the ability to hold the same kinds of events that players hold, but not vice versa. I might pick player-held events because of the lack of competition. :X
Arie:
You're quite well known in the LuminaRO community, do you still play as characters or just sit about and chat?
Gadget:
It's been a long time since I've done anything other than sit around. I will very rarely join parties with my friends now. And thanks to the new IRC channel, I plop my butt in there and chat as well.
Arie:
What got you into RO in the first place and how long and where have you been playing?
Gadget:
I saw a screenshot from a webcomic 8 years ago of Ragnarok Online when it was in its alpha stage. I eventually downloaded the client (OMG so painful on a dial-up) when the first beta opened, and have been playing since then. I used to pretend to be a guy, and I don't want that revealed, so I'm going to stop talking now. Arie:
And how did you happen to come across LuminaRO?
Gadget:
Actually, LuminaRO was my 2nd private server after I stopped pretending to be a guy. I believe my first was Ragnarok Revolution, and I never met anyone with whom I clicked. So I moved on to another server and found Lumina. :D Been here since December 2009! CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW FAST TIME PASSES?
Arie:
What's your favourite thing about LuminaRO and why?
Gadget:
You, Arie. <3 You're my favorite thing. BECAUSE YOU ARE SO CUDDLY WUDDLY.
Arie:
And let's be fair, what do you dislike the most about LuminaRO and why?
Gadget:
I hate that the jack be dandies are used for slotted mid-headgears. It's been my favorite headgear since it first got introduced to RO, and I just don't think it makes sense to have this item be used for that. I would prefer a new item be put into an OBB to be used as an ingredient.
Arie:
I'm personally dying to know, why do you like Gypsies so much? And if you like them so much, why don't you make one of your own? Or do you secretly have one? :P
Gadget:
I don't have a gypsy, because I think it's weird to ogle at myself. Gypsies are hawt, man :| Especially the sitting pose...the way they lean back. :D It's as if they're saying "Come over to me~" TEEHEE.
Arie:
You are friends with a lot of staff members, let's be controversial and find out who your favourite is and why?
Gadget:
This is a really mean question, Arie. I will never ever say you are my favorite just because of this question alone, jerkface. Anyway...Wyrd is probably my favorite staff member. I think she is very professional with her forum posts, as well as being very approachable. She takes the time to be thorough with her explanations so that people understand fully the answers to their questions.
Arie:
You are known for being in Social Guilds, why have you never started one of your own?
Gadget:
Simple answer: LAZY.
Arie:
Why do you prefer social guilds? Why don't you like WoE or PvP?
Gadget:
Being aggressive with violence was never in my nature. Back in junior high, when I was on the basketball team and the girls on the opposing team would shove me, I NEVER shoved back. And just because it's virtual doesn't mean it's not violent, dammit!
Arie:
And since everyone really wants to know, are you really a girl?
Gadget:
Why does everyone ask me that? Clearly from the sound of my voice, I am an adolescent boy.
Arie:
So you're confirming that you are a boy then? :P
Gadget:
YES, I AM A GIRL. Who likes other girls. Gypsies pls call, my number is (number withheld for personal reasons, but it did involve the good old GO-GADGE). Yes. the last "T" is cut off. Oh well.
Arie:
Why the male characters?
Gadget:
Because I'm butch in real life (that means a girl who dresses/acts like a guy...not a typo of the um...female dog), so I felt the male characters were more fitting to my personality.
Arie:
Lastly, if you could be remembered for anything on LuminaRO, what would it be?
Gadget:
"OMG GADGET IS A GIRL?"

I hope you enjoyed it and remember guys, if you want to join the LuminaRO IRC channel join DeltaAnime.Net's IRC server and the channel is #LuminaRO!

Arie~

Roulette

Hey Lumatics,
Well, we have another new member of staff joining the team, which is Roulette who is a Sub GM and is going to help us with coding and scripting. This means hopefully we'll get those all important fixes and ideas implemented faster. I had a private word with Roulette earlier today and asked him a few questions before I announced him in-game.

Arie:
First I'd like to welcome you to the team, how do you feel on this momentous occasion?
Roulette:
It's a honor to be a part of Lumina's staff; I'm pretty excited, and nervous too.
Arie:
Don't worry about it, the players don't bite that hard. So what made you want to join the team?
Roulette:
Well, I felt like I could help the server, and I've been having more and more ideas for the server, so I thought I'd try applying, and here I am. ^^
Arie:
Oh ideas! Anything you can reveal to us that you'd like implemented?
Roulette:
Hmhmhm...that best remain a secret, no? Ruining the surprise takes all the fun out of it.
Arie:
So are you a player of Lumina? And how long you played for?
Roulette:
Yes, I've been an active player of Lumina for over 9 months now, so I've been around for a while. Feels like the New Year's event was only a few weeks ago...time flies when you're having fun.
Arie:
What's your RO history? How long have you been playing?
Roulette:
Since the dawn of time...lol =P I've been playing since the first (or at least I believe it was the first) iRO beta, back when 2nd classes like Knights were a rare commodity...so I guess that puts it at 9+ years. I took a bit of a break here and there, but RO has a way of bringing you back.
Arie:
Lastly, if you could be remembered for one thing by the LuminaRO players, what would it be?
Roulette:
That's a really good question. I guess I would hope it would be the amount of enjoyment players have when doing an event that I've scripted or helped create. Though I guess that doesn't make much sense. XD
Arie:
Considering you kept most of the things you said you were going to do to yourself, no it doesn't ! But thanks for your time and it's a pleasure having you on the team
Roulette:.
Thanks <3

In another news, a forum moderator has been promoted to do Forum Events. Wyrd has joined the lovely family and will be taken under Elissa's wing. Quite a few updates today guys! Hope you're doing well!

The I Love Lumina Hat

Hello Lumatics,
Just some news regarding the wonderful I Love Lumina Hat that almost everyone has been sporting for the past month. The hat, which came into play on the 8th August was randomly found from killing monsters and gave +5 to All Stats during the Event timeframe.

The timeframe was the 8th of August to the 30th of August. The Event overran due to personal reasons but today thankfully, the hat has finally been nerfed and reduced to its +1 to All Stats. Most characters will need to relog or re-equip the hat for this to take effect. Fortunately, when the server maintenance takes place on September the 4th, this will globally rectify this.

Goodbye I Love Lumina Hat, you've done us proud!

First Post

Hello my little Lumatics!
Welcome to the first post for the LuminaRO blog, where I, Arie will be taking you through the wonderful world that is LuminaRO. I'll be doing all sorts on this blog from speaking about updates, to Staff opinions on matters, to screenshots of random events to even interviews with different players and their opinions.

What's the whole point of this? Well, we don't have a newsletter and they can be a tad annoying as they spam your inbox so I decided to do something that was fairly easy to update and would also bring newer people to the website and hopefully the game! Any publicity is good publicity, even if it is my shoddy blog :D!

Anyways, just a quick introduction. I'm Arie, I'm 23 and live near Glasgow in Scotland in the United Kingdom. I've been with Lumina since early March 2010 and I'm currently the Head Support GM. Anyways, that's enough blabbering, I'll be posting with a real update soon enough!

Arie~
